Seven + Ember Candle Care Guidelines

Seven + Ember Candle Care Guidelines

At Seven + Ember, each candle is hand-crafted in small batches. From hand-pouring to the final polish, every effort is made to ensure consistencey and quality control. Because our products are handcrafted, subtle variations may occur, this is part of their unique character.

To get the best burn experience from your candle and to ensure safety, please follow the candle care guidelines below, along with the instructions on the safety label located on the base of your candle and the Candle Care Card included with your purchase.

Essential Candle Care

1. Trim the Wick
Before each use, trim your wick to approximately 5mm (¼ inch). This reduces smoke, prevents soot buildup, and promotes an even, controlled burn.
Wooden wicks: Gently pinch or trim off the blackened tip before relighting.

2. Let Wax Pool Fully
On the first burn, allow the wax to melt evenly across the entire surface. This prevents tunnelling and ensures your candle burns evenly all the way down. Burn for at least one hour per inch of the candle's diameter.
Do not burn any candle for more than 4 hours at a time.

3. Burn Away from Drafts & Fabrics
Always place your candle away from drafts, windows, fans, and air vents. Avoid placing it near curtains or soft furnishings—this poses a serious fire risk.

4. Use a Candle Snuffer
Blowing out candles can disturb the wick and cause splattering. Use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame cleanly and safely.

5. Store Candles Properly
Store your candles in a cool, dry place away from sunlight to preserve their scent and prevent discolouration or melting.

6. Avoid Overburning
Burning a candle too long can cause the vessel to overheat and may reduce scent throw. Never burn for more than 4 hours, and discontinue use when 1cm (10mm) of wax remains.

7. Burn on Heat-Resistant Surfaces
Always place candles on a stable, heat-safe surface. Never move a burning candle, as the jar and wax will be hot.

8. Keep Jars Clean
After the wax has cooled, wipe the inside of the jar to remove any soot or residue and maintain your candle’s appearance.

9. Remove Crystals & Botanicals Before Lighting
If your candle contains decorative elements, such as crystals or dried botanicals, remove them before lighting to prevent ignition or fire hazards.

10. Never Leave a Candle Unattended
Always extinguish candles before leaving the room or going to sleep.

11. Keep Out of Reach of Children & Pets

Additional Notes

  • Wax Texture: Slight unevenness or a bumpy surface after burning is normal for coconut soy wax and does not affect performance.

  • Wooden Wicks: It’s normal for wooden wicks to darken after burning. Always trim before relighting for best results.

By following these candle care and safety guidelines, you'll enjoy a longer-lasting, cleaner burn—and a safer, more enjoyable candle experience.
